Damed THIEVERY!!

Tue Sep 30, 2008, 9:15 PM
Hey e'erybody!
Like your artwork? Think its yours? Want to keep it?? Well, better kiss it all good bye as it gets stolen by big companies and sold as their own. That's right! Thanks to this bill called the ORPHAN WORKS BILL, big companies can claim anything they want that doesn't have a TRADEMARK and they can make money off it and not give it to you. How do you get a "trademark" you say? Well you can't make one up, you gotta buy one from the GOVERNMENT to tune of $5000. Yes, 5 thousand wing-wangs.

Pissed yet? GOOD!

Now sign this and spread the word!!

Hah XD Don't worry man, this was taken care of a few years ago. There were a rash of journals just like these on DA a few months ago too because the subject was brought up again by someone. This bill doesn't need to be worried about anymore :D

Orphaned Work means that the original creator can't be found. Sign your stuff and you'll never have to worry about it.

I know what Orphaned Work means, please don't talk down to me. Besides that, if someone crops your name off the picture then its orphaned enough for their purposes.

Dude, not trying to talk down to you, but this is old news. As long as you can prove it yours somehow, then there really is no problem. [link]

My apologies for being over sensitive then. But this not exactly "old news", there have been updates on this story as recent as Tuesday. Also about the article you sent me, her words sound nice like companies are going to be responsible but lets see it in practice (esp. the this "diligent search" comment). I think we have seen how "responsible" big corporations can be when left a loop hole that no one is watching. Any time some "official" tells me to calm down, I wonder whose payroll their on.

Have you seen this yet? [link]

It wouldn't be all bad if this happened. I read that previous copyrights would be voided, so that means if someone was fast enough they could take a company's logo. In the end it comes down to who has the most copyrights with different companies on it, so if someone were to say register Microsoft's logo under their own name in 5 or so different places then lobbyists might start being paid to see the other side of the story. The general public can be very inventive in dealing with big companies' decisions and lobbying.
